Purpose: The purpose of the AVID Site Team is to guide the systemic development of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at Albany High School. “The AVID system accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional development, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.” [http://www.avid.org]
Mission: AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. [http://www.avid.org]
Goals:
1) Develop a strand of AVID electives for ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades that provide support for students identified as AVID students. These students should be chosen with AVID criterion that emphasizes students in the middle of class rankings, students underrepresented in college populations, students with free or reduced lunch and/or students who would be the first in their family to attend college.
2) Provide opportunities for Albany High School to adopt the strategies and culture of the AVID system.
